Diverse teams can achieve greatness, but they need to exist in an inclusive environment that promotes psychological safety. Psychological safety refers to people’s perception of the consequences of taking interpersonal risks, and research suggests it is the number one driver of team effectiveness. It is also essential for a resilient workforce and organizational agility.

During this workshop, we explore the concept of psychological safety, examining related research from Dale Carnegie and others, discussing examples, and considering ways leaders can assess the level of psychological safety within their teams and organizations, as well as steps they, and team members, can take to develop and enhance it.

    • Discuss the concept of psychological safety and why it is important
    • Examine research by Dale Carnegie and others
    • Look at ways to assess a team’s level of psychological safety
    • Consider ways that leaders can increase psychological safety
