Anxiety and stress are among the most common reasons employees request accommodations in the workplace. On one hand, anxiety and stress can be crippling to those who suffer. In the workplace, employees’ anxiety results in a significant loss of productivity. On the other hand, however, employees’ requests for accommodations can open the door for legal liability. To make matters more complicated, managers may need to discipline an employee who just requested an accommodation for anxiety. HR’s role, on the front lines, is invaluable to a company’s ability to manage risk.
Learning Objectives:
- Know the top five risk management strategies.
- Understand how to find reasonable accommodations – and what to do when there aren’t any.
- Identify timing issues and how to best respond.
